The School of Mechatronics & Vehicle Engineering,formerly the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, was founded in 1979. With its development and expansion, the previous department was transformed into a school. After successive changes, the School was finally named “School of Mechatronics & Vehicle Engineering in May 2016, with an aim to highlight its principal feature being “traffic-oriented, orbit-centered”. The School now has 6 departments, 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, 4 research institutes, 3 labs, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 provincially key laboratory, and one Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center in 2011, 1 provincial engineering research center, 1 provincial engineering laboratory, and etc. Among all the 5 undergraduate majors, Mechanical Design Manufacture and Automation Major is the first batch of undergraduate characteristic/brand specialty in Jiangxi Province and the National “Outstanding Engineer” Program Major, while “Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation” is a provincial comprehensive reform pilot specialty and Vehicle Engineering a National Excellent Engineer Program major.

The school places high importance on the subject construction, forming an integrated talent cultivation system covering bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees. The school now offers 3 master’s programs of the first-rank disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering, Instrumental Science and Technology, and Transportation Engineering, along with another 6 of secondary ones. In the 4 programs for Master of Engineering such as Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Vehicle Engineering and Control Engineering, the school has also been granted the qualification for enrolling doctoral students in such two first-level disciplines as “Control Science and Engineering” and “Transportation Engineering”. Mechanical Engineering Discipline is the key discipline of Jiangxi Province in11th Five Year and 12th Five Year, and the Mechanical Engineering Discipline leading unit in Jiangxi Province.

The school now has an excellent faculty. Among the total staff of one hundred and nineteen members, there are six doctoral supervisors, twenty one professors, forty associate professors, and forty seven doctors. The school is especially proud for its elite group of experts and professors with respectable titles and honors like:one admitted in New Century Talents Project, one of Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents, one of National “Millions Plan” Leading Talents, one of Prominent Teachers of Jiangxi Province, and two of Outstanding Teachers of institutions of higher learning Jiangxi Province, six of Scientist Development Targets in Jiangxi Province (Outstanding Young People), six of Young and Middle-aged Academic Leaders in institutions of higher learning in Jiangxi Province, ten of Young and Middle-aged Academic Elites in colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province, and nine of New Century Excellent Talented Teachers in Jiangxi Province , five enjoying special allowances from the national government, and one of Innovation teams in key areas of the National Innovation Talent Promotion Plan.

The school has successively won many important and valuable titles like one first prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress, one first prize of Chinese Technological Invention, one second prize of Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology and two first prizes of National Multimedia Courseware Contest along with other awards such as twenty three provincial and ministerial natural science awards, scientific and technological progress awards, scientific and technological achievement awards, In the past five years, the school has successively undertaken over 50 state-level scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation Project, the National 863 Plan Project, projects of the National Science and Technology Ministry's agricultural science and technology achievement application, as well as over 70 provincial and ministerial level research projects, thus have made great contributions to different industries and local economy.

Focusing on talent cultivation, the school pays great attention to the cultivation of practical ability while greatly improving the quality of classroom teaching. Consequently, in the past five years, students of the school have won a great number of awards, nationally 70 and provincially over 200, in various kinds of contests or competitions like the Challenge Cup, 3D Design Competition, Mechanical Innovation Design Contest, and Engineering Training Comprehensive Ability Contest, etc.

Graduates are widely welcomed by working units for their excellent competence. Within the total employment rate, above 95%, the proportion of students working in state-owned large and medium-sized enterprises in the rail transit industry occupies almost a half.
