INSTRUMENT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

A brief introduction to the instrument discipline:

Instrument Science and Technology as a first grade discipline, was originated from the Institute of Testing Technology and Intelligent Diagnostics which was established in the 1990s. In 2002, undergraduate majors in measurement and control technology and instrument began enrollment, and in 2014, it was granted the “Pilot Program Major for the Comprehensive Reform in Jiangxi Province”.

In 2018, this discipline applied for engineering education certification and was accepted.In 2005, it was given the authority to grant the master's degree inprecision instrument and machinery. In 2010, it obtained the position as a Primary Discipline Doctoral in “instrument science and technology”and is currently a key and school-level discipline of East China Jiaotong University.

Ever since the discipline was established, so far, the research field has expanded from the traditional equipment fault diagnosis, widening to intelligent diagnostic technology, photoelectric detection technology, new sensing and information processing, rail transportation equipment and control.

The development goal of this disciplineis as follows. This discipline takes Traffic Equipment Detection and Diagnosis as the develop direction and applies itself to the fundamental theory and applied research in non-destructive testing and intelligent diagnostic technology. Meanwhile, it also devote itself to take advantage of the rapid development of local societies inthe country and Jiangxi Province, especially the rail transport industry, to carry out technological innovation of the key technologies in the fields like non-destructive testing technology and equipment,condition monitoring and intelligent diagnosis,new sensor technology and information processing,development and control of railway special used equipment as well as the industry, agriculture and transportation filed. Integrating and demonstrating in the fields of intelligent rapid detection instruments and automated safety monitoring devices is also part of the goal.

At present, there are 6 professors and 10 associate professors in this discipline, and 70% of the faculty members have a Ph.D. It has formed aresearch team that includes many candidates of the New Century Talents Project in Jiangxi, and the leaders of discipline construction work in colleges and universities. All the team members have relatively high level of age, education, and professional title, which makes it a well-structured andhigh-level research team. In the past five years, it has presided over 10 national-level projects and 12 provincial and ministerial-level projects.
