A guideline to best practice of squat treatment.Written for and upon invitation by the International Union of Railways (UIC).UIC is the largest railway organisation in the world. It has about 200 members worldwide consisting of almost all the major railways.The work of the PhD thesis of Dollevoet on optimal design of rail profile with me as co-promotor. It led to a standard European rail profile named 54E5 at 1:40, see EN 13674-1, June, 2009, which results in about € 50 million savings per year on maintenance costs for ProRail and makes the railway tracks safer.
